Classes at The Learning House
The Learning House uses a Science and Math based curriculum for many reasons.
- Children love to do Science! When young children hear the world Science, they conjure images of mixing some of this with some of that and waiting for some kind of reaction. They have so many questions about the world around them and the best way for them to learn is by exploring, asking questions, and making the hands-on/minds-on connection.
- Children are learning critical thinking and problem solving skills! While children are doing their experiments, they are constantly thinking about different ways to do their experiment and formulating questions. Then, when the experiment doesn't work the way they thought it would, they start problem solving to find the reasons and a way to make it work. These are skills children will use for the rest of their lives!
- Children learn how to manage themselves! Because Science is so exciting and children want to be a part of it, young children learn how to self regulate so they can be included in the activity.
- Children of all abilities are able to do Science! The Learning House is a fully inclusive school and children with special needs are able to do activities side-by-side with their non-disabled peers. This allows everyone to be doing the same things at the same time and each child is seen as equals to each other.
